Finding JOY!
If you had to find a photo or image that represented joy, what would that look like?
When was the last time you experienced joy?
Sometimes, that’s such a hard question to answer, and I would suggest that if you can’t remember - then go searching for some joy.
What things in your world make you joyful?
Too hard to answer - what food gives you total joy? What TV show? What book? What song?
Start there, with the small.
And maybe you’ll see that the small isn’t that small.
Let’s go with the song, because it’s almost free. Think of a song that brings you joy, that you love hearing. Why do you love it? What is it about that song that makes you happy.
Now, play the song, and really notice how you feel and how you respond to the song. How does your body move to the song, what facial response do you have?
This is joy.
But also be aware - it doesn’t always land this way. I’ve been craving some comfort food, but have been unsure what I wanted - I tried pasta bake, toad in the hole, a Sunday roast and none of them hit it spot. But I tried. I wanted to experience joy from food and I tried to get it.
For me the issue I had with joy was that my expectations were the same as when I was a child - that carefree unabandoned laughter that I had back then isn’t the same as how I experience joy now.
So, here’s my message to you - seek the joy! In whatever way you need to seek it.
