Wonderful Women!

Wednesday the 8th of March is International Women’s Day!

Here are some facts about IWD -

  • The first recognised International women's day was in 1911.

  • The colours of IWD are white, purple and green.

  • IWD is recognized as an official holiday in many countries such as Cuba, Vietnam, Uganda, Mongolia, Montenegro, Cambodia, and Ukraine - and in some countries including Serbia it's combined with Mother’s Day.

  • IWD is now an annual mainstream moment, marked by millions worldwide and celebrated through events, campaigns, speeches, performances and more.

The first for women’s equality is far from over, and in celebrating women on international women’s day we can begin to become educated and educate others.
And so, this week I want to celebrate wonderful women by talking about wonderful women & feminism.

Most of my clients, followers and readers are women, so if you identify as a woman and you are reading this - you’re wonderful. You have amazing ideas, you’re creative, you’re compassionate and kind, you make a difference in this world and you deserve recognition.

I have been passionate about my work because I am passionate about every person having the space to talk about how they feel, every person should have the rights to do the things that make them happy for THEM. I agree that you can’t pour from an empty cup, but that isn’t the only reason to rest and recharge - you should be resting to make YOU feel better.

When we as women take on roles in our lives, we usually put the needs of those roles (and the people we support in those roles) before our own needs. It’s systemic, it’s cultural, it’s how we’re taught to be and it’s in our nature. We are sisters, aunties, daughters and we put the needs of our family before our own needs. We become employees and we put the needs of our jobs in front of our own needs. We become partners/wives and we put the needs of our partners, wives and husbands in front of our own needs. We become pet owners and we put the needs of our pets before our own needs. We become parents and we put the needs of our children before our own needs.

And that’s important - because the needs of our loved ones and the needs of our jobs are important to put first. But then, somewhere along the line, we ignore our own needs to the point where we don’t even recognise what our needs are!

And women are incredible, we’re creative, smart, forward thinking, brave, strong, innovative, caring, leaders - but we don’t get the chance to be those things because we’re putting the needs of others in front of our own needs & wants.

So that’s how my business progressed - working towards a collaboration with people (mostly women) to learn more about themselves, put themselves first more, to really think about themselves in a ways they have never been taught to before to live a life, yes for others, but for THEMSELVES too!

What a damn brilliant job I have. Working with people to put their feelings, thoughts and needs first more.

Until next week, L xx
