A gentle reminder…
I wanted to write a small little note today for anyone who is feeling the weight of overwhelm.
Everything you feel is so valid. There is a world profiting from toxic positivity - Good Vibes Only, Work Hard & You’ll Do Amazing, Ask And The Universe Will Provide.
And that makes us feel like shit - but, we’re then told to simply ignore that and focus on the positive.
Of course, there is merit in focusing on the good - on gratitude lists. I am a fan myself! But, in the world we live in today where ever increasing bills mean so many are struggling to simply pay bills and eat there can seem like there is so little to be grateful for.
So, what can we do with this overwhelming feeling?
Ask for help.
Reaching out is hard, so much in our mind tells us not to - internalised stigma, the idea that we’re a burden, the thought that everyone else has it worse so we shouldn’t complain. But if you can - that it’s the first step to getting help.
If you struggle you can download the amazing App My Bubble. You can encourage others to download it (it’s FREE) and then share how you feel with your bubble if you want to. It’s a way of asking for help without asking for help.If your overwhelm is about others - then ask where you can help.
Can you volunteer? Donate something? Help someone else? Sometimes we feel so powerless and so we throw money at the situation which can be really helpful - but is there something else you can do?Realise the power of your voice.
The easiest and simplest thing you can do (and you have the power to do) is ask “how are you?” And then LISTEN TO THE ANSWER. Use your voice and give the time. Two things which most of us have.
Over the past few weeks I have been opening my eyes to the power of community - however small. We CAN all live as a community when we listen to each other and be there for each other.
I want to remind you that however you are feeling is natural.
Asking of help is allowed, and will be met with a kind ear.
Be the kind ear, allow others to know you’re there if you can.
Until next week - L xxx
