Let’s Talk About GUILT.

The roles we play in life are huge - mum, dad, parent, sister, brother, pet owner, volunteer… And so many others.

And we attach worth, importance and identity to the roles we play - which is a normal and natural thing to do. But when we do this, we forget who we are - the connection to our real self. Because the connection to our roles is so strong.

Therefore, when we take time doing things OUTSIDE our roles, we can feel guilty. Let me remind you of one thing -

Taking care of your emotional health, mental health and wellbeing is NOT indulgent. It’s vital to existence.

But, you know that already. Because you’re the type of person who KNOWS these things (because you’re the type of person who reads blogs like this). But somewhere, there is a disconnect between knowing it, and living it.

That disconnect arrives early on in our lives, it’s when we learn that to be productive and to always be DOING it important. We see it in our parents lives, and we hear it from our teachers. Sitting around is bad and moving and doing is GOOD.

And it’s even worse if we’re female - because we get told be be nice, and kind, and put others first - and we watch our MOTHERS doing just that, sacrificing their lives for everyone else - and we believe it’s just the way it has to be.

So, when we do otherwise, everything we have learned is telling us it’s WRONG.

And that’s the guilt.

And yes, I bang on about this a lot, because it’s something we need to fix. So, I’m going to tell you again -

Taking care of your emotional health, mental health and wellbeing is NOT indulgent. It’s vital to existence.

Have a great day, L xxx
