Success - what really is it?
How do you define success?
Is it your bank account? The size of your home? The amount of friends you have? What your social media looks like? Your pay scale? Your job title? Your achievements in life?
From what I can gather, we measure success on what we have achieved, compared to the average people where are are. Where we are could be our geographical place, our job title, out age range, our gender, our sexuality etc.
Where do we get the mold of success from? Is it ourselves or the images of others?
Are you a success?
Theses are big questions - and I think we know the answer.
So I came to the conclusion that success is a feeling. Some days I feel successful, even when compared to others I come out on the bottom. Some days I feel like I failed, even when compared to your average white 42 year old woman living in Bridgend others may class me as a success.
Today our lives are similar to those written about in Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Grey - we all want others to think we’re different than we are because they will like us more. So we filter our lives, our faces, our bodies to please others.
This has taken a turn for the slightly depressing, so I’ll end it on a positive note - nobody gets to dictate to you what your version of success is. It’s all relative, and you get to choose how successful you feel in relation to what.
Until next time, take care, L xx
