Rituals we all need and rituals we already do.

Ritual, routine, purpose, intentions - what do you think of when you hear these words?

For a long time now my business has been all about giving yourself permission to pause, and having purpose with that pause.

I had a client this week who mentioned the ritual of things they do - and it really got me thinking. And that day when I made lunch, I made it with intention. The intention of creating something really tasty, really nourishing and really nurturing for me and my family.

I was so mindful when I chopped, peeled and boiled the food. I arranged it on the plates in a rather pretty and Inst-worthy fashion (but I didn’t share it online). It felt lovely. Intentional.

And I know - this is all very Buddha/ spiritual feeling - but our rituals are all around us. We use then and find comfort in them daily without even being aware.

Rituals can ease anxiety and give us a feeling of control over things in our life - they heighten our experience and help keep us living in the moment - which we know helps with feeling grounded, more alert and less stressed and anxious.

So, what rituals do you already do?

Making a brew - maybe you have a particular way you like to do this? Maybe it’s always at the same time of day? Why do you do it then? I can bet that part of it is ritualistic.

Bedtime - maybe you brush your teeth, had a wee, and then read a book. Or flick through your phone. Or lay there and count sheep - if you do it with the intention of heightening the experience of getting to sleep - it’s a ritual!

How can we make those smaller moments count?

Firstly - why would we want to make those smaller moments count? Because it keeps us connected to right here and now - it helps us stay in the moment more rather than worry about what’s to come or panic about what’s happened. And we know that by living this way we feel less stress and anxiety.

How can we make them count? By taking it slower. By being intentional with your movements and thoughts. By being aware of what happens and how it feels when you do the things.

What are your thoughts on rituals/ mindfulness? I’d LOVE to know!

Tell me through the usual channels - until next time, L xx
